First stop after crossing Biscay was the Spanish Basque city of Bilbao. This is a lovely city and the ‘Old’ part of which is a few miles up the river is beautiful and fascinating. The world famous Guggenheim Museum is located here. We anchored in between the two marinas in the large bay which was a superb spot to stay. It also meant we avoided the 50eu a night they wanted for us to stay in Gexto marina. We also turned up on the weekend Bilbao happened to be playing Barcelona in the Copa del Ray cup final. The city was awash with the red and white stripe flags of the local team and we watched the game in one of the many squares where they had erected a huge screen. Unfortunately for the locals Barcelona were by far the better team and won fairly easily. This was a city we could easily come back to at some future time.
